As a VA wedding photographer, I’ve photographed plenty of sweet and simple wedding ceremonies and I’d love to share some of my favorite wedding venues in Virginia with you! Plus a few spots I’m dying to visit. 

The Best Intimate Virginia Wedding Venues

Bold Rock Cidery – Did someone say cider?! If you and your partner are looking for a lovely scenic venue to follow I Do with a few craft beverages, Bold Rock’s Nellysford location is for you! A local favorite will become your sweet spot for years to come. Its outdoor space and impressive timber-framed barn will be perfect to invite a few friends and family along, too!

Location: Nellysford, VA 

Vibe: Rustic, but charming cidery and tasting room nestled along the Rockfish River with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains! 

Accommodation: No accommodation on site. 

Venue space: The Bold Rock Field is perfect for larger events, but your intimate wedding reception could be held in the Rockfish River Room or Tasting Room! 

Food: The cidery has an on-site restaurant called Bold Kitchen that offers a yummy craft-food menu.

Four Eleven York – Are you looking for Virginia wedding venues that give a bit of charm, but don’t sleep on luxury? Because Four Eleven York is it! Built in the 1890s, this sophisticated yet homey boutique inn has an on-site restaurant and an outdoor space that dreams are made of! It could be the perfect place for your low-key luxury intimate wedding ceremony, don’t you think? 

Location: Norfolk, VA 

Vibe: Restored boutique inn and restaurant merging impressive history and quaint spaces with modern luxury so you won’t have to choose between charm and comfort. 

Accommodation: Four luxury suites are available at the Inn. Perfect for you and your closest loved ones! 

Venue space: From an outdoor courtyard to the main restaurant, there are plenty of dreamy spots for your ceremony! Check out the options here! 

Food: The Restaurant at Four Eleven York boasts a drool-worthy menu with everything from classic brunch to dinner favorites to a top-tier cocktail list.

Commune – Known as Virginia’s first farmer owned restaurant, Commune is best known for it’s locally sourced, high-quality meals. But did you know they have two event spaces as well?! If you are two foodies looking for wedding venues in Norfolk or Virginia Beach, you’re in luck. Commune can host your intimate wedding while serving up some of the best food you can find in the state. 

Location: Virginia Beach and Norfolk, VA 

Vibe: Both venues are found in upbeat arts districts where historic VA appeal meets contemporary event spaces.   

Accommodation: No accommodations on site! 

Venue space: The Virginia Beach wedding venue can accommodate up to 35 guests in its cozy space, while the Norfolk location sits up to 150! 

Food: Both locations accommodate full dining and cocktail menus for your guests! 

Common House – Sophisticated, chic, modern, and down right classy! That is the best way to describe this perfectly curated Virginia wedding venue full of bright natural light in the arts district of downtown Richmond. With a rooftop, courtyard, screening room, wine cellar, and more – this is truly a dreamy spot for your intimate wedding.  

Location: Richmond, VA 

Vibe: Romantic elegance vibes only at this modern and bright indoor/outdoor at this downtown historic Virginia wedding venue in Richmond. 

Accommodation: No accommodations on site, but there is a bridal dressing suite. 

Venue space: The main reception space is combined with an outdoor courtyard and even a built in rain plan making this venue space check all of the boxes! 

Food: All inclusive dining, beverages, and furnishings provided are a great way to add ease and convenience to your day! 

Potter’s Craft Cider – Only ten minutes from the bustling college town of Charlottesville, the stone building filled grounds of Potter’s Craft Cider sits tucked into a forest. The architecture of their venue options is incredible giving you quaint little English countryside vibes right here in VA! Not to mention craft-brewed cider that is worth writing home about! 

Location: Charlottesville, VA 

Vibe: European farmhouse meeting Virigia’s rolling hills at this stunning indoor/outdoor property tucked into the forest. Charm, privacy, and cider all wrapped into one! 

Accommodation: No accommodations on site.  

Venue space: Terraced lawns, intriguing architectural spaces, timber framed stone buildings, you get it all with this wedding venue. Indoor or outdoor ceremonies welcome!

Food: No food on site, but plenty of space for an intimate reception with loved ones! 

Shenandoah Woods – Dreaming of an intimate wedding weekend getaway? Shenandoah Woods could make your vision come to life! This 200 acre retreat space in the valley with views of the Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains, complete with cabins and venue spaces, creates a homey atmosphere you’d expect from a sweet retreat in the mountains. 

Location: Stanley, VA 

Vibe: Open air venue nestled into valley fields with views of the Blue Ridge! Upscale cabins create an elevated coziness to your mountain retreat. 

Accommodation: Yes! The property boasts 18 rentals, a mix of lodge rooms and private cabins, for a cozy stay for all of your guests! 

Venue space: The Pavilion at Shenandoah Woods offers stunning valley views for your outdoor wedding ceremony, but the grounds offer plenty of options for getting ready, rehearsal dinners, and more! 

Food: No food on site, but plenty of reception space! The venue also has a list of preferred caterers they have worked with in the past. 

The Loft – Picture a stunning old brick firehouse standing tall in the middle of historic Richmond. Your eyes scan just above its picturesque ground floor to a second floor space flooded with natural light and the same exposed brick as the firehouse itself. That’s The Loft! They offer elopement packages, too! We love that. 

Location: Richmond, VA 

Vibe: Urban space with exposed brick and modern furnishings with loads of natural light conveniently found right in downtown Richmond. 

Accommodation: No accommodation on-site.

Venue space: With space for your ceremony, rehearsal dinner, and more, this intimate wedding venue provides all furnishings for an easy set-up for a good time. 

Food: No food on site, but space for a reception or rehearsal dinner! 

The Poe Museum – For our literary lovers (or lovers of any intimate venue really), the Poe Museum is an idyllic spot. Did you know that Richmond, VA is the home to infamous poet Edgar Allen Poe? Well ya do now! The birthplace of Poe’s journalism is now a tranquil little wedding venue in Virginia! That is kind of like the coolest thing ever, yeah? 

Location: Richmond, VA 

Vibe: Quiet outdoor courtyard ceremony site with arched brick doorways and a simple elegance resembling a backyard wedding space. 

Accommodation: No accommodation on-site.

Venue space: The courtyard ceremony space is dreamy and there is plenty of room for tents, tables, and more for receptions and rehearsals! 

Food: No food on site, but space for a reception or rehearsal dinner!
